In this episode we're taking you through a complete Victron upgrade on a Crusader Gladiator Force. The van originally ran the factory BMPRO system and an inverter, and we've stripped out everything except the final circuits and rewired the lot.

The system now runs 600Ah of lithium in the factory battery boxes, a full 12V Victron setup under the bed, and our Element3 Victron cooling package to keep the charging gear running cool in an enclosed space.

System Overview
- Element3 Charger Cooling System (for Victron chargers) COMING SOON
- Starlink Mini DC Converter

- 600Ah lithium (2 x 300Ah, customer supplied)
- Victron MultiPlus-II 3KVA Inverter/Charger
- Victron Orion XS 50A DC-DC Charger
- Victron MPPT 50A SmartSolar Charger
- Victron MPPT 30A SmartSolar Charger
- Cerbo GX with Touch 70 Screen
- Victron GX Tank with three float sensors (front fresh, middle fresh, grey)

Heat is one of the biggest enemies of any charging system mounted under a bed. Our Element3 cooling package uses two vents and dedicated inlet and outlet fans, along with fans mounted behind the chargers, to move cool air in and push hot air out. The fans are controlled through the Cerbo GX relay, switching on at 30 degrees and off at 28. They're designed to run at 2,000 RPM, so they move plenty of air without being loud at night, and they can be overridden from the screen if needed.

The inverter runs the whole van, including the microwave, air conditioner and kitchen and external power points. The fridge and hot water system are set up to switch to 240V only when the van is plugged into shore power, so they don't drain the batteries through the inverter.

The existing roof solar was rewired in series, bringing the array up to around 60V. Higher voltage means lower current through the cabling and better efficiency, especially on overcast days. We also fitted new MC4 connectors and solar fusing, and refreshed the cable runs.

On the chassis, we rewired the battery boxes with equal-length cabling to both batteries so the load is shared evenly, and consolidated the factory circuits to keep the battery terminals clean.

With 600Ah of lithium and a solid charging setup, this little Gladiator Force will run out of water well before it runs out of power.

In this episode we're taking you through a full Victron auxiliary system in a canopy on the new hybrid Toyota Hilux. The vehicle came to us with a freshly fitted canopy, GVM upgrade and bull bar, and an empty tray ready for a slide-out pantry, fridge and drawer system.

The hybrid Hilux runs differently to a conventional ute. In place of the standard 12V alternator, it has a 48V generator charging a small 48V battery under the rear seat, with a 48V to 12V converter under the passenger seat supplying the factory 12V battery. The 48V system is only designed to charge the vehicle's own hybrid battery, so we've built a 12V auxiliary system charged through a DC-DC charger, using the correct ignition source so the charger turns on and off with the vehicle.

System Overview
- Element3 Core 300Ah 12.8V Lithium Battery

- 2 x 130W Element3 Fixed Glass Solar Panels (supplied, to be fitted with roof racks)

- Element3 Dual USB 100 (Interior)
https://element3batterytechnology.com.au/product/element3-dual-usb-100-interior/
- Victron MultiPlus 12V 3KVA Inverter/Charger
- Victron Orion XS 50A DC Charger
- Victron 30A SmartSolar Controller
- Victron 20A SmartSolar Controller
- Cerbo GX with Touch 50 Screen
- Victron Smartshunt and 300A circuit breaker
- Temperature-controlled cooling fans for the Victron components (coming soon on the Element3 website!)

During the install we checked the DC charging circuit supplied with the canopy. Despite the owners specifying 16mm copper cable, it had been run in aluminium-core cable, which builds resistance as it heats up and drops the voltage reaching the DC charger over a long drive. We've replaced it with true copper-core cable, and the DC charger is now taking a full 50A input and delivering 50A into the lithium battery.

We also put the Element3 Core battery under load, running a kettle and a heater through the inverter at the same time and drawing around 290A from a single 300Ah battery. In the video we explain how the BMS manages high current and temperature, and why a two-battery system shares that load very differently.

The owners do a lot of hiking, so the system is designed to keep the fridge running while the vehicle is parked for several days. Roof solar plus a portable blanket through its own controller will keep the battery topped up, even through a run of cloudy days.

If you've got any questions about the setup or need help with your own hybrid Hilux, 4WD or off-grid build, feel free to leave a comment or get in touch at info@jtelectricalgroupnsw.com.au.

In this episode we're taking you through a complete off-grid electrical upgrade on a Red Centre Kimberley caravan. This van has pretty much had everything done, from 600Ah of lithium and a full Victron system under the bed to over 1,500W of solar across the roof.

We removed the original chassis battery boxes and fitted new ones to house the lithium, replaced the factory BMPRO system with a full Victron setup, and rewired the 240V side of the van properly after finding an unsafe inverter installation from a previous owner.

The roof solar is split across three controllers. The driver side and passenger side arrays each run through their own 50A controller, while the two panels on the pitched front section run through a third. Keeping the pitched panels separate stops them dragging down the efficiency of the flat panels when the sun is low. At full output, the system can put close to 100A back into the batteries from the roof alone. Combined with the DC-DC charger while driving, that's around 140 to 150A of charging, bringing 600Ah from flat to full in roughly 4.3 hours.

The van previously had a 2000W inverter mounted under the bench seat, with undersized DC cables and a short extension lead run up to the van's inlet. That's not a compliant way to power a caravan. We've replaced it with the MultiPlus wired properly through the AC input and output with RCBO protection. All 240V work was completed by a licensed electrician, and the customer receives an electrical certificate of compliance along with AS/NZS 3001 compliance for the van.

We also cover the tank monitoring setup, how we run the HDMI for the Victron touchscreen (10 metres maximum, with perfect connections), and how VRM remote monitoring lets us check a customer's system in real time while they're on the road. With Starlink connected, troubleshooting can take 30 seconds instead of days.

With 600Ah of lithium, this much solar and two drinking water tanks, the owners can stay off-grid for extended periods, and water becomes the next thing to manage rather than power.

ALL the Fruit: 1.5kW of Solar, Built to Stay Off-Grid

In this episode we're taking you through a complete off-grid electrical upgrade on a Crusader Gladiator Force single axle caravan. The factory setup ran a small lithium battery with limited charging capability and no inverter, which wasn't going to support the way the owner wanted to travel.

We've removed the factory battery box and replaced it with our dual chassis-mounted battery boxes housing 600Ah of lithium, paired with a full Victron charging, inverter and monitoring system.

System Overview
2 x 300Ah lithium batteries (600Ah total)
Victron MultiPlus 3kVA inverter/charger with 120A charging
Victron 50A DC-DC Charger
2 x Victron 30A MPPT Solar Chargers
Existing 400W roof solar, rewired in series
Anderson solar input on the front of the van
Victron Cerbo GX with Touch 70 Display
Tank level monitoring
Circuit breakers and fusing for all DC charging and van circuits
Illuminated switches for battery isolation and water pump
Temperature-controlled cabinet ventilation
240V outlet above the kitchen running off the inverter

One of the biggest decisions on this build was where to spend the budget. The owner originally wanted to upgrade the roof solar. With 400W already on the roof and a 400W portable blanket, a 300Ah battery would have been fully charged by mid-morning on a good day, leaving the solar with nothing to do for the rest of the day. Solar can only replenish as much energy as the battery can store, so we recommended putting that budget into battery capacity instead.

With 600Ah of lithium (approximately 7.68kWh), 800W of solar or alternator charging will take the system from flat to full in roughly 9.6 hours. On 240V, the MultiPlus 120A charger brings that down to around 5 hours. In the video we walk through the maths behind these numbers and how to work out realistic daily solar yield.

The electrical cabinet sits under the bed, so ventilation was an important consideration. The Cerbo GX monitors cabinet temperature and controls dedicated inlet and outlet fans, switching them on at 30 degrees and off at 27 degrees. The vents are positioned so they aren't obstructed by the mattress.

We also discuss why we build these systems on 12V rather than 24V or 48V. While higher voltage systems reduce conversion losses, the tow vehicle still runs a 12V alternator, and a 12V system keeps things simple, reliable and easy to support on the road.

Overall, this build turns the Gladiator Force into a genuinely capable off-grid van that can run the kettle, coffee machine and induction cooktop without relying on powered sites.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. JT Electrical did a very tidy install of a Victron system including inverter, MPPT, Cerbo GX, DC chargers and 2 x 300ah batteries with new boxes for my Gladiator Force off grid caravan. He also installed a lithium battery (from van) to my ute replacing an AGM, and added an anderson plug, and set up my Starlink. While there was a delayed due to battery shipping from Melbourne, Jarrod and the team kept me informed to minimise any inconvenience. Jarrod's customer service is amazing - after arriving home i was testing some things and left the hot water electric button on draining the batteries over several days. With the remote system Jarrod accessed and talked me through checking everything to find the error, and then steps to reboot the system and charge the batteries! Gold customer service! HIGHLY RECOMMEND JT Electrical for any 4WD off grid and caravan electrical or solar needs.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have just got our Crafter Kampervan back from the team and all I can say is wow! We can't thank Jarrod and the team enough. I had been following JT Electrical online for sometime and was impressed with their professional approach to power installations. After a couple of emails and an on-site visit we decided to upgrade our electrical system. What a difference. With real-world experience Jarrod was able to recommend appropriate upgrades both need to have and nice to have. No pushy sales just fair dinkum advice. Easy to deal with, easy to communicate with. Did I say we are impressed with our system. We had a simple issue after hours and Jarrod replied within a few seconds and was able to provide advice on what to do. Moments later everything was working perfectly. I can't thank the team enough. We feel so much more confident in the new system both from a compliance and reliability point of view. What can I say. A team of young guys and girls showing the industry how it should be done. Thanks again!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The first day of our 6 month trip and Starlink stopped working. I sent Jarrod at JT Electrical a text message on Sunday night saying we would call in on Monday morning hoping he maybe able to help us. When we arrived he and his team dropped everything to help us. They pulled things to pieces and found the problem. A few hours later, problem solved. So refreshing to deal with young polite talented people. If you need a power fit out or have any electrical problem don’t go anywhere else. Thanks Jarrod, much appreciated. Regards Michael
