In this episode we're taking you through a 2019 Jayco Journey that we've transformed from its basic factory electrical setup into a comprehensive off-grid touring system designed around what two people actually need. The van originally had the standard Jayco electrical system with two AGM batteries, no inverter and most of the electrical equipment taking up valuable storage underneath the bench seat. We've completely reworked the system, relocated the electrical equipment and installed a 410Ah Element3 Pro Series lithium battery underneath the bed. With 410Ah of lithium, 1000W of roof-mounted solar, portable solar capability and a full Victron system, this isn't an unnecessarily complicated build. It's a well-balanced 12V system designed to keep two people comfortably off-grid without sacrificing valuable storage space. The original electrical equipment has been removed from this area, with the new fuse panel and isolation equipment neatly installed in otherwise unused space above the wheel arch. We've also installed one of our Element3 410Ah Pro Series lithium batteries underneath the bed. With approximately 5.2kWh of stored energy and a 7-year warranty, it provides plenty of usable capacity for this size van while keeping the installation clean and contained within its sealed and vented enclosure. On the roof we've installed 1000W of solar, controlled through a 70A Victron SmartSolar MPPT. There's also a separate 30A controller for the portable ground array, allowing the customer to add up to approximately 400W of additional portable solar when required. For additional comfort while travelling, we've installed a Belief 2.2kW diesel heater, with the heater mounted underneath the bed and its dedicated diesel tank securely mounted to the rear of the van. One of the main points we discuss in this video is whether increasingly complicated 24V and 48V caravan systems are actually necessary. For this particular van, the combination of a 410Ah lithium battery, substantial solar capacity and conventional 12V charging provides a simple, serviceable and highly capable system for two people travelling off-grid. With 180L of freshwater onboard, there's a pretty good chance these owners will run out of water before they run out of power. You'll Run Out of Water Before You Run Out of Power
In this episode we take a look at a complete electrical upgrade on a 2021 Jayco Silverline, removing the existing Projecta system and replacing it with a full Victron setup designed to deliver better charging, monitoring and flexibility for off-grid travel. Rather than simply replacing components, this build has been designed with future expansion in mind. We've separated the roof solar across dedicated controllers, added a completely separate portable solar input and integrated full Victron monitoring, giving the customer a system that's easy to use now with plenty of room to grow in the future. We've installed 500W of solar on the passenger side of the roof running through one dedicated 50A Victron solar controller. The existing panel on the driver's side has been retained and connected to the second 50A controller. This gives the customer plenty of additional capacity if they decide to add another panel in the future, without having to redesign the charging system. We've also installed a dedicated 30A SmartSolar controller for the ground array, with an Anderson plug conveniently positioned on the driver's side of the van. This allows portable solar to be set up wherever the best sunlight is available while keeping it completely separate from the roof-mounted system. The Victron Cerbo GX and Touch 70 bring the entire system together, giving the customer a central location to monitor battery performance, solar production, DC charging and tank levels through the newly installed GX Tank 140. Overall, this upgrade takes the existing electrical system in this 2021 Jayco Silverline and turns it into a much more capable, flexible and future-ready off-grid setup. We Ditched the Projecta System in This Jayco
In this episode we take a look at a complete electrical transformation on an older Roadstar Magnifique, taking a poorly configured system and turning it into a clean, reliable and fully off-grid touring setup. This van came to us with a 300Ah lithium battery, a questionable inverter setup and a mixture of components that weren't necessarily bad on their own, but had been poorly integrated. Rather than replacing everything for the sake of it, we've reused what made sense, completely reworked the installation and built a system that's ready for long-term touring. One of the biggest changes is moving the battery system out of the van and onto the chassis. With 600Ah of lithium now mounted externally, we've freed up the front tunnel boot for the electrical system while creating a much cleaner and more functional overall layout. The existing roof solar has been separated across two 50A controllers, giving the customer plenty of room to replace and expand the current panels in the future without needing to redesign the charging system again. We've also fitted a dedicated 30A solar controller for the ground array. This gives the customer the flexibility to connect one or multiple portable solar blankets when parked up and chasing the sun. Inside, we've integrated full Victron monitoring along with tank level monitoring, allowing the customer to see battery state, charging performance, solar production and water levels from one central display. With the system connected to the internet through Starlink, we can also remotely monitor and assist with troubleshooting when required. One of the more challenging parts of this build was upgrading the 240V system without running unsightly surface conduit throughout an older caravan. By carefully reworking and repurposing the existing cable routes, we've integrated the MultiPlus while maintaining a clean factory-style finish. Overall, this is a great example of why you don't necessarily need a brand-new caravan to have a seriously capable off-grid setup. With the right electrical system and some careful planning, an older, well-built van like this 2008 Roadstar can be transformed into a highly capable tourer ready to travel the country. This Old Roadstar Just Got a New Lease on Life
In this episode we take a look at a complete electrical transformation on a 2017 Jayco Silverline Outback, taking an older factory setup and turning it into a modern, high-capacity off-grid system. Originally, this van was running a BMPRO J35 system with two 100Ah AGM batteries located under the bed. We've completely reworked the electrical system, relocated the batteries outside the van and increased capacity to 600Ah of lithium, freeing up valuable internal space while dramatically improving the van's off-grid capability. With 1000W of roof-mounted solar, 600Ah of lithium and a full Victron system, this Silverline now has the battery capacity, charging performance and monitoring needed for serious extended travel away from powered sites. The original two AGM batteries have been replaced with two Element3 300Ah Core lithium batteries mounted externally, giving the customer three times the usable battery capacity while reclaiming valuable storage space inside the van. We've also completely upgraded the solar system with four new 250W Element3 solar panels, giving the van a total of 1000W on the roof. These panels feature a thicker, more durable frame, and we've relocated the solar fusing internally to make servicing and protection much more accessible. A separate 30A Victron solar controller looks after the portable ground array, with an Anderson plug positioned conveniently on the A-frame so additional solar can be connected when required. The DC distribution has also been separated into essentials and non-essentials. The non-essential circuits can be isolated using a dedicated switch, while critical systems remain powered. This includes the three-way fridge display, allowing the customer to continue selecting the fridge operating mode when other non-essential loads are switched off. We've also made Starlink much easier to use off-grid. A dedicated exterior connection runs through a 30V converter and our Element3 Pod Mount Female Adaptor, meaning the customer can simply plug their Starlink directly into the outside of the van without running cables through doors or windows. To finish the exterior, we've installed our Element3 Pro Series angled lights. They're fully dimmable and tri-colour, giving the customer warm white, cool white and amber lighting from a single control at the door. Overall, this build takes a seven-plus-year-old factory electrical system and brings it right up to date, with substantially more battery capacity, solar, charging, monitoring and usability for extended off-grid travel. Dual Victron Orion XS DC-DC chargers provide up to 100A of charging while driving, while 500W of roof-mounted solar and a dedicated portable solar input keep the battery charged when parked off-grid. The entire electrical system is monitored through the Victron Cerbo GX, giving the customer complete visibility of battery state, solar production, charging performance and water levels. Remote monitoring also allows us to provide support if required. Water, lighting and everyday usability were also key priorities. The vehicle features a 90L underbody water tank, hot and cold external shower, upgraded high-flow water pump, integrated air compressor, and a fully tri-colour lighting system with Bluetooth control and dimming throughout. Overall, this build is designed to be practical, reliable and comfortable for long-term touring, without sacrificing serviceability or factory reliability.
